How do I set my profile to public and make a custom URL?
Please click the icon:
I get an error that says ID not found or Check Name?
Be sure you have a custom URL set and your using that in the custom URL field. Do not use the whole URL only the custom URL name:
http://steamcommunity.com/id/customURL
How do I use this?
Go to the main page by clicking on the Banners button at the bottom of the page or use the banners link on the left side of any page, find the banner style you like and click it, it will take you to a page where you can generate the code. Enter your Steam custom URL and click the Generate button.
You will see the code that you can copy and paste into a forum or website as well as a preview of your profile banner. It will look like this (depending on the banner you choose):
| [img]http://www.site-jump.com/banners/X/steam_statimage.php?p=X&s=X[/img] |
|
- For use in a forum - the forum must allow the use of image tags:
[img] [/img]
Simply copy the code that is generated and paste it in a forum.
- For use on website's, simply copy the direct image link and use HTML markups.
Can I just save the image to my computer and use it that way?
Not if you want it to work. The image is generated from our website and is updated every 60 seconds. Saving the image to your computer will only save a copy of the image as it is at that time. It will not update with new information as your profile updates.
I try to use this on a forum in my signature but it says the use of dynamic images is not allowed.
The script generates what is called a dynamic image which is not really an actual image like a .jpg or .gif image. It is dynamically generated .png image file from our website and the forums sees the [img] [/img] tag and and follows the link to your signature banner to retrieve the image.
Spammers use dynamically generated images when they spam forums and some forum owners block these as a way combat the spammers. The only thing that you can do if you want to use a signature banner is ask the forum owner to allow their use on the forum.
I did everything right but when I try to use it on a forum in my signature all I get is the code text.
Chances are the forum owner has disabled the use of image tags. You will have to contact the forum owner and ask them if they will allow them.
I was using this and it worked just fine but it does not work anymore.
If you changed your Steam custom URL then the script can no longer find you. If you changed the privacy setting on your profile then the script can not gather your information to generate your banner.
If your using it on a forum, be sure the permission where not changed stopping the use of image tags or be sure your image code is correct.
Go to the main page and find the banner you are using and click it. Once there enter your Steam custom URL and generate your code and banner. Check that the code that is generated is the same as the code you are using. If it is different then use the new code that was generated.
Also, because we need Steam's website to gather your information, your banner might not show if Steam is updating their website or they are having problems.
